TT crew interviews: Brianne Drouhard; Ben Jones on TT & "Brave & Bold" (and: J's new series is out!) Posted by Butch on September 1, 2008 @ 4:26 pm EST - Link
Sorry for such a late update, everyone. By now you might've heard the news that: (A) sadly, the TT "Judas Contract" animated DTV movie is officially off ...and (B) Slade (woo!) has officially joined the DC vs Mortal Kombat game. With that out of the way, here's news you might've missed.
Last Wednesday, TTG writer J. Torres' new comic series "Family Dynamic" hit stores with its first issue (with covers by TTG artist Sean "Cheeks" Galloway). The reviews are already in, and they are glowing. Here are a few noted from J's blog:
"Family Dynamic" is not just a new direction for J, but also ground that DC Comics rarely treads, if ever. The series and its universe are entirely conceived by J and his crew, as opposed to being set in mainstream DC continuity. However, for some reason (likely because it's an entirely new thing not set in the DCU), initial store pre-orders have been low. Because of this, DC has abruptly cut the mini-series from its planned six-issue run down to three (can they even do that? guess so...). In light of this, even though "Family Dynamic" isn't necessarily Titans-related, we're urging fans to pick issue #1 up and spread the word if you like what you see. Asking your local comic shop to order its other 2 issues would also greatly help.
Thanks for your support, not just for J. Torres, but for DC to realize the potential of fresh creator concepts beyond retreading the same mainstream DC Universe.
Titans character designer Brianne Drouhard mentioned on her blog about an interview she did a couple weeks ago with Fulle Circle Productions. The interview focuses on, to name a few things, her various work experiences as an artist, including how she went on to join the Teen Titans production crew. She also gives alot of insight on her art education background, as well as great advice for artists trying to break into that big scary media arts industry. Oh yeah, and she talks a bit about working on Titans too:
Brianne: "They would go over designs with me, and give me notes. It was a lot of fun there, I have a photo somewhere of a giant wall of random Post-It drawings we all did one night. Being there was an experience I feel very lucky and fortunate to have. Everyone was really excited to be working on the show, the artists and writers worked well together, and the directors put a lot of heart into it. I was very spoiled having that be my first full time job drawing."
Click here for the full interview (it's a nice big one), with several of Brianne's awesome drawings as an added bonus.
Awhile ago, TT director/storyboarder Ben Jones was interviewed by Big Shiny Robot about his work on the upcoming "Batman: Brave and the Bold" animated series, working on Teen Titans, animation production, and much more:
Ben: "I also remember Mad Mod as the episode where I set my own personal record for overnighters - I boarded most of the chase sequence in one 53 hour work session. A lot of fans ask what drugs we were abusing for that show, and the answer, for me at least, is nothing more than good old fashioned sleep deprivation. Cheap and legal!
When we finally finished boarding it (and got some sleep), we started worrying about what we were going to get back from overseas - we didn’t know if the Moiré patterns would read on television, or if Dongwoo would get the optical illusions right, or if the story still made any sense to anyone but us. But they did a stellar job on it. I haven’t seen as perfect a translation from board to finished show as Mad Mod, before or since."

Big Shiny Robot also provided some of Ben's episode storyboard work for the Teen Titans series, which are of course quite cool. Click here to check em out! "Trouble in Tokyo" soundtrack list! (also: TT episodes on iTunes!) Posted by Butch on July 17, 2008 @ 11:21 pm EST - Link
Another update for the previously announced "Teen Titans: Trouble in Tokyo" movie soundtrack! Amazon.com's buy page for the soundtrack has since been updated to include a full tracklist. Click here for the list of 26 tracks, which run for about an hour, and seem to be entirely of Dynamic Music Partners' musical scores. For some reason, the list doesn't include Beast Boy's themesong karaoke, or the Titans singing during the credits roll.
The "Trouble in Tokyo" soundtrack comes out on July 22nd, 2008, so pre-order yours and mark that calendar! Also releasing that day is the "Batman: Gotham Knight" animated shorts soundtrack, which World's Finest has a tracklist for here.
Teen Titans episodes can now be purchased from the Apple iTunes store! At last, you can download episodes without that ever present glare from fellow fans for indulging piracy hanging in the air. Apparently, it's just Season 1 that's up for grabs so far:
More seasons are likely on their way, so stay "ituned"! (ungh.)
TT "Tokyo" soundtrack! TT crew at SDCC! (also: Season 5 DVD reviewed & Wonder Girl TPB next week) Posted by Butch on July 3, 2008 @ 11:38 pm EST - Link
Big news! It seems a soundtrack will be released for the Teen Titans "Trouble in Tokyo" DVD movie! Thanks to James for the update.
World's Finest reports that La-La-Land Records has tentatively scheduled it to release on July 22nd, 2008 (just three weeks away!). Amazon.com already has it up for pre-orders:
What does this mean for Teen Titans? Why no press release, leaving Amazon to apparently break the news? Other than cover art, nothing else about this soundtrack release has been given. Nonetheless, very exciting news!
Several of the Teen Titans animated crew are showing up at the San Diego Comic-Con this month (July 24 - 27)! Cartoon Network released details on their convention panel events, two featuring Titans crew members in full force on their new animated productions:

- "Ben 10: Alien Force" panel: featuring series producer Glen Murakami, and voice-actors Ashley Johnson (Terra), Greg Cipes (Beast Boy), and Dee Bradley Baker (Silkie & many others)! This panel takes place on Saturday, July 26th @ 10:15 - 11:15 AM (in Room 6A)
There will also be a "Ben 10: Alien Force" signing on Saturday, July 26th @ 1:00 - 2:30 PM, at the Cartoon Network booth; Teen Titans producer Glen Murakami will likely be there, so stop by and say hi!

The Teen Titans Season 5 DVD will be available in stores on July 8th, 2008.
Also out next week (the day after Season 5's DVD, in fact) is the collected volume book for TTG writer J. Torres' "Teen Titans Spotlight: Wonder Girl" mini-series. Featuring Wonder Girl II (Cassie Sandsmark) going solo, J packs the series with lots of action, much-needed character development for Cassie, and character appearances that Young Justice fans will love.
That's it for this update. After the fireworks and BBQ, go pick up the Teen Titans Season 5 DVD and J's Wonder Girl volume book. And of course, be sure to eat lots of deliciously cooked animal flesh. Happy July 4th, everyone!
DC Comics "playing down" animated Titans and TTG Posted by Butch on June 24, 2008 @ 11:06 pm EST - Link
Two unfortunate updates, concerning animated Titans and DC Comics:
According to Dan DiDio (DC Comics Exec. Editor) at last weekend's Heroes Convention in Charlotte, "Tiny Titans is doing better than expected, and is selling more copies per issue of Teen Titans Go!". While success for the title is a good sign of young fans' Titans interest, DiDio's flat comparison of sales between it and TTG doesn't sound very positive for our beloved, recently cancelled comic series. Perhaps they're not eager to do that follow-up for "Teen Titans Go!" after all, but if later sales (like for TTG's collected books) are good, who knows?
Also, when asked if there would be a follow-up to Amy Wolfram (animated Titans story editor) and Karl Kerschl's "Fab Five" Titans mini-series, "Teen Titans: Year One":
Dan Didio: "Not really - that was a particular flavor done for that sensibility that played against the animation style, which is something that DC is trying to play down for now." (bolded for emphasis by us)
From this, the attitude of DC Comics towards the animated Teen Titans and "Teen Titans Go!" is pretty clear. Whether or not this is DC being against the animated series in general, or finding a more successful TTG replacement in "Tiny Titans", or both, remains unclear at this point. Preview for TTG's final issue! (also: Billy Numerous in mainstream DC title) Posted by Butch on May 27, 2008 @ 11:51 pm EST - Link
Excitingly, yet sadly, the time has come: Tomorrow, the final issue of the "Teen Titans Go!" comic series as we know it will be released.
"Teen Titans Go!" writer J. Torres has posted a five-page preview for TTG's final issue, #55! Taking it full circle with its cover art allusion to the series' first issue, "Teen Titans Go!" #55 will cover an incredibly expanded legion of Titans (as immediately shown in the preview), one last battle with their early foes the HIVE 5, and much more.
Click here for the TTG #55 preview pages, as well as J's parting words for the series. It has indeed been a wonderful title run, and we can't imagine it having any better a crew as J. Torres, Todd Nauck, Lary Stucker, and the rest of the "Teen Titans Go!' team. Many thanks to you guys for turning out issue after issue of an incredible and immensely fun comic for all us fans the world over. Extra props to J for being so gracious to us here at TitansGo. Everytime we had even the most minor request, you went and gave that extra mile. Congratulations TTG, but never goodbye!
Has Billy Numerous hit the big time in the mainstream DC Universe? Apparently so, as he appeared in last week's Catwoman #79, with Selina Kyle (Catwoman) returning home from the events of DC's "villain planet, Alcatraz-style" series, Salvation Run. She clashes with a certain thief wearing red and white who can split into many individuals. Thanks to TGN forum member Wakka Man for the notice.
Click here for scans of Billy's appearances in the issue, provided by the scans_daily comics community. With this appearance, Billy has joined the ranks of other animated Teen Titans characters specially made for the show who've popped up in pages of mainstream DC Comics titles. Others include Mas y Menos, and Cinderblock seen in Teen Titans. There've been other strong nods to the animated series: Beast Boy, Bumblebee, and others taking their animated counterparts' costumes and abilities, for example. Billy Numerous' significant appearance in Catwoman is yet another sign of how much the animated Titans have influenced DC's mainstream titles. Good job Billy, and you too Billy; here's to many more!
TT Season 5 DVD up for pre-order! (also: TTG & JLU artist Ethen Beavers interviewed) Posted by Butch on May 22, 2008 @ 9:55 pm EST - Link
The wait is over: the "Teen Titans: The Complete Fifth Season" DVD is now available for pre-ordering through Amazon.com! Thanks to TitansGo.net forum member Highlander for the heads up.
Amazon's offering it at a good discount (for $13.99, compared to the $19.98 MSRP) and eligible for free shipping, so click the link below to reserve your copy of what's arguably the most epic season of Teen Titans on DVD. Not to mention, yknow, the final season of the entire series. Every purchase made through us helps keep the site going, so thanks for any support!
The Season 5 DVD will be released on July 8th, 2008; it includes all 13 episodes of Season 5 on two discs, as well as 20 minutes of "secret files" bonus material. And don't forget, how well the DVDs sell gives Cartoon Network the message that we want to see more animated Titans!
Adding to their "Teen Titans Go!" interviews, World's Finest recently put up an interview with Ethen Beavers (TTG guest artist). Ontop of being the artist for last month's TTG #54 (the Wonder Girl II paradise island story), Ethen has been a storyboarder for Justice League Unlimited, as well as an artist for its comic title.
Ethen: "It takes a little while to become competent with new styles, but after a while, you start to figure things out. for instance on Titans, I learned that Murakami's designs for the original Titans (Cyborg excluded) are actually pretty creepy from the neck down. They are very angular and thin, and they hunch a little bit. Without the heads on, the characters look a lot like zombies. In contrast, their heads are these huge, cute, Anime looking things. I never would have thought to put those heads and body types together, but the fact is they look great together! So I learn a lot with each new style and I have an opportunity to get better, and hopefully smarter, at drawing in the process."
